What’s your biggest complaint from your accountant?

I started off speaking to one person, then every year I hand my records in I speak to another person. There’s no continuity!
If I had a pound for every time I heard this I wouldn’t need to work! As my business grows and I get the opportunity to meet more and more people every week, there’s one complaint I hear all too often.
Dealing with large accountancy firms certainly has it’s benefits, but what about dealing with a smaller firm? Right from the outset I swore I was never going to get so big I would lose touch with my clients, and that’s where I want to keep things. Getting to know my clients, new and old, is paramount for me. Since my business evolved nearly a year ago, I have found that more and more people are looking for a smaller local accountant to deal with their tax affairs.
What other complaints do I hear?
My fees are too high, I don’t feel I’m getting the service I’m paying for.
Goodbye massive fees! I have managed to save some of my clients hundreds of pounds – I don’t charge a fortune for the sake of it. All my clients are fee’d on an individual basis. I don’t believe in set fees – why should a £5m turnover limited company pay the same as a £100k turnover limited company?
They never return my phone calls or emails – why should I wait days for an answer to my query?
We’re all busy, there’s no doubt about it. That’s life. However, in most instances I try to reply to emails same day. Yes, sometime this doesn’t always happen but I can guarantee I won’t make anyone wait longer than they have to. Phone calls are always answered unless I am in a meeting, in which case I’ll phone you back as soon as I’m out.
I don’t feel like I can talk to them, and when I do I am made to feel stupid”
I try to set myself apart from the rest by keeping things simple – dealing with your accounts can be difficult enough without having them talking in “accountancy speak”! I always tell my clients “no question is a stupid question”. What one person knows, another might not.
If one of the complaints above is one you can relate to, why not give me a call? All first meetings are free and you will be provided with a no obligation quotation (which might tempt you further!).
My client base covers all of central Scotland and if you can’t get to me, I am more than happy to come to you for a coffee and a biscuit!
What are you waiting for?
